Frequently Asked Questions...
Novice option for sight/optics for recurve archery?
I shoot with a bare bones recurve bow and I'm looking for a sight aid. My grouping is straight up and down in a vertical line, I just can't hammer out the angle. It's my understanding that this is why an archer uses a sight?
If so, are there different kinds of sights I should be aware of? I was just planning on getting a cheap $20 cartel sight to give it a shot before I invested big money in something I know little about.
Ideas?
Answer:
For recurve, there really is only one type if sight, everything from the $10 cartel to the $300 shibuya ultima essentially works the same way. The difference is built quality. The cartel will rattle loose on you specially when you're shooting any bow heavier than 25 pounds. While the Shibuya will be rock solid.
Getting a sight will give you a quicker start, for sure. Just don't start aiming too hard. Just use the sight as a point of reference, but your attention should be mostly on your form, anchor, body alignment, back tension. Out of the shot sequence, aiming should be the last thing on your mind.
The cheapest sight out there that can handle heavy bows without rattling loose would be the shibuya dual click, at about $150.
