Frequently Asked Questions...
Crossbows red dot sights and pin sights?
I recently purchased a pair of crossbows and am in dire need of information on how best to zero in the redot scope ( i cant even see the dot). And how best to zero in the pinsight peephole scope.
Answer:
if you're not seeing the dot in the red dot scope, you either don't have it turned on, or there is no battery in it, or the battery is dead, or the protect insulator is still on one end of the battery (used in shipping to ensure that the installed battery doesn't go dead because of accidentally turning the scope on). if it's the last one, just remove the paper or plastic insulator at one end of the battery, and turn it on. when viewing from the shooting position, you should see a small red dot in the viewfinder. there are windage and range screws to adjust both horizontally & vertically.
peepsights take a little practice, but are my sight of choice when not using some sort of electronic sight. generally, the accepted use is to line up the top of the pin to the center of the peephole. sight your target by sitting it just above the pin.
adjusting the sights on crossbows depends mostly upon range. differences in distance will require range adjustments in any sight method. ideally, if you are shooting targets at a certain distance (say for example, 50 feet), you would place a practice target at 50 feet, aim for bullseye, shoot, then see where your bolt lands. make adjustments to correct and shoot again. keep adjusting until you shoot bullseye. if your peepsight has no adjustment screws, you can often take a file & make notches on the front pin to use as approximate range marks. painting the marks with flourescent orange or white paint can make visualizing them easier for quicker shooting.
